MANAGING YOUR MENOPAUSE, by Dr. Wulf Utian and Ruth Jacobovitz (Prentice Hall, 1990). Dr. Utian is a leading expert in menopause and founder of The North American Menopause Society. He offers his 12 step program for the menopause and some excellent information, but is strongly in favour of hormone replacement therapy. Ruth Jacobovitz has just brought out her own book, 150 MOST ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MENOPAUSE: WHAT WOMEN REALLY WANT TO KNOW. This book has a more balanced view about hormone replacement therapy.
THE SILENT PASSAGE, by Gail Sheehy, (Random House, 1991). Now in paperback, this book provides unique information on hormones and new concepts of menopause. Sheehy leans strongly towards hormones. Most of the 153 page book was contained in the Oct/91 issue of Vanity Fair.
LOVE AND SEX AFTER 60, by Dr. Robert Butler and Myrna Lewis (Harper and Rowe, revised, 1988). This is one of the few books available on this topic. It deals with sexuality in a practical and straightforward manner.
IS IT HOT IN HERE OR IS IT ME?, Gayle Sand (Harper and Collins, 1993). This down to earth book is subtitled A Personal Look at Facts Fallacies and Feelings of Menopause.
LAMBDA GREY, by Adelman (Newcastle Publishing, 1993). A practical emotional and spiritual guide for gays and lesbians who are growing older.
HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY, by Betty Kamen. This copiously illustrated book provides an alternative look at the HRT question, with emphasis on the use of natural progesterone cream.
ESTROGEN: IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?, by Paula Dranov (Fireside Books, 1993). This book provides a thorough factual guide to help you decide.
